About the Role
Power to Hydrogen is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrolyser Technician to support our flagship AEM electrolyser demonstration at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, and support future installations in Europe. In this hands-on role,you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of our Antwerp AEM electrolyser plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and optimized hydrogen production.
Responsibilities
System Operation
· Participate in the initial installation and commissioning of hydrogen production facilities in Belgium and across Europe.
· Operate the AEM electrolyser system in accordance with Power to Hydrogen's standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Monitor real-time system performance, tracking key parameters including hydrogen output, stack voltage, current density, water quality, and temperature.
· Execute start-up and shutdown sequences and adjust operational parameters to maintain optimal production efficiency.
· Respond promptly to alarms, process deviations, and system faults, applying fault-finding techniques to minimize downtime.
· Maintain accurate production logs and operational records in accordance with project reporting requirements.
Maintenance & Inspection
· Carryout scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on the electrolyser facility.
· Perform routine inspections of mechanical, electrical, and process systems, identifying and addressing wear, leaks, or component degradation.
· Support corrective maintenance activities, coordinating with suppliers and engineering as needed.
· Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and consumables, flagging reorder requirements in a timely manner.
· Support Team in contact with operating partners (e.g., contractors, heavy-equipment providers, gas off-take and transport partners)
Health, Safety &Environment (HSE)
· Enforce and adhere to all HSE regulations applicable to hydrogen production and Port of Antwerp site requirements.
· Conduct pre-task risk assessments and ensure safe work practices are always followed,including confined space, electrical isolation (LOTO), and hydrogen gas safety protocols.
· Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
· Report all incidents, near-misses, and observations to the project management team.
Data Collection & Reporting
· Collect and document operational data to support performance analysis, efficiency optimization, and project reporting.
· Collaborate with the engineering team to provide field observations and technical feedback for system improvements.
· Assist in the development of processes for collection and reduction of system data.
· Preparation of technical reports.
Desired Qualifications/Skills
Required
· Vocational or technical diploma (BSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
· Minimum2 years of hands-on experience operating and/or maintaining industrial process equipment (electrolysers, fuel cells, chemical reactors, or comparable systems).
· Solid understanding of electrochemical processes, fluid systems, and electrical/instrumentation fundamentals.
· Experience working in an industrial or port environment with demonstrable knowledge of HSE best practices.
· Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
· BA4 training certificate
Preferred
· Prior experience with AEM, PEM, or alkaline electrolyser technology is a strong advantage.
· Familiarity with hydrogen handling, storage, and safety regulations (ATEX, HAZOP, etc.).
· Relevant certifications: VCA (Safety), electrical switching authorization, or equivalent.
· Experience in a demonstration, R&D, or commissioning environment.
· BA5 training certificate
· Forklift operation license

· C+E driver’s license
· ADR class 2 + tank
Personal Competencies

· Meticulous attention to detail, particularly in documentation and safety compliance.
· Team player with strong communication skills; comfortable collaborating with engineers, project managers, and port authorities.
· Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic project environment.
· Fluency in English and Dutch is required, French is considered an asset
Compensation:
€45,000 – €60,000 base annual salary + standard Belgian benefits
